Filmmaker, James Cameron, and the Avatar Alliance Foundation recently debuted a new short film – "What Would the Ocean Say?" – in the Hall of the General Assembly at the United Nations.
The World Oceans Day launch took place during the first ever United Nations Ocean Conference – a week long event aimed at reversing the decline in the health of the ocean – for people, planet and prosperity.
The jewel in the conferences’ programming crown was "What Would the Ocean Say?" – narrated by Avatar and Guardians of the Galaxy actress, Zoe Saldana, and featuring stunning ocean imagery donated by some of the world’s preeminent marine documentarians.
"What Would the Ocean say?" outlines the significant challenges the world’s ocean faces: global warming, plastic pollution, overfishing, ocean acidification and more. It also introduces a new generation of ocean activists – researchers, conservationists, teachers, filmmakers – who are all working on the front lines to protect and preserve the planet’s critical resource.
A dedicated and driving force in the global ocean conservation movement, Richard Branson was in New York City for the launch of the film on World Ocean Day, and for multiple other events – one being the presentation of his personalised Le Mar Wave Walk wave sculpture.
